Turning Your To-Do List into a Moment of Devotion

Planning doesn’t have to be just about productivity. It can be sacred. In fact, if the foundation of your life is rooted in spiritual alignment, it probably should be.

That quiet moment when you sit down with your planner, your pen, and your list? That’s not just about organizing your time—it’s an opportunity to align your heart.

Because the truth is, no matter how carefully we structure our day, we’ll always be limited by what we can see. That’s why incorporating faith into your planning is more than a nice idea—it’s a way to walk in partnership with the One who sees the full picture.

Why Planning with God Changes Everything

When we plan with God, we’re not just asking Him to bless what we’ve already decided—we’re inviting Him to lead.

We’re saying:

Lord, here’s what I think I need to do. But You know what I actually need to do. Show me the difference.

This small shift takes planning from a personal hustle to a holy habit. It reminds us that our days are not just filled with tasks—they’re filled with opportunities to live on purpose.

A New Way to Approach Your Planning Time

Here’s an idea:

What if you treated your planning time like a quiet conversation with God? Before the stickers, the color coding, the strategy—just pause.

Take a breath.

Ask:

“God, what do You want me to focus on today? What should I let go of? Where do You want to lead me?”

This moment of surrender doesn’t have to be long or elaborate. It’s about realigning your intentions with His wisdom—and trusting that He will guide your steps.

A Simple Prayer for Planning with God

Here’s a prayer you can use when you sit down to plan your day or week:

“Lord, thank You for the gift of this day.

Thank You for entrusting me with time, energy, and purpose.

Help me not to rush ahead of You or fall behind You.

Guide my priorities.

Redirect my attention when I’m focused on the wrong things.

Remind me that productivity means nothing if I miss Your presence in the process.

Bless the work of my hands, and help me use this time for what truly matters in Your eyes.

Make me sensitive to Your leading, even in the small things.

And above all, let my plans reflect Your purpose—not just my preferences.

Amen.”

You can even write this in your planner, tape it to your desk, or pray it aloud before you begin your week.

Practical Tips to Turn Your Planning into Prayer

If you’re wondering how to start making this part of your routine, try this:

1. Pause first.

Take 1–2 minutes to be still. Even a deep breath and a whispered “God, be with me in this” shifts your focus.

2. Invite God into your goals.

As you write down your goals or to-dos, ask: *Is this in line with where God is leading me right now?*

3. Highlight what matters most.

Mark or star anything that involves people, service, or rest. These are often where God moves in unexpected ways.

4. Surrender the results.

You can plan with excellence and still trust God with the outcome. Do your part—and release the rest.

5. Reflect and recalibrate.

At the end of the day or week, ask: *Did I follow where God was nudging me? What needs adjusting?*

Don’t put pressure on yourself to “get it right.”

God isn’t measuring how neatly you color-coded your planner. He’s looking at your willingness to include Him in the process.

Even on the messy days, He’s with you. Even when the plans change, He’s still guiding.

So when you sit down to plan your next week, don’t just ask, What do I need to get done?

Ask, Lord, what do You want to do through me this week?

That’s where the peace is.

That’s where the purpose is.

And that’s where your plans will start to bear fruit—not just productivity, but fulfillment.
